Tom Wideman caught this spectacular image of Abell 85 in Cassiopeia with his SVX130T. This supernova remnant is located approximately 9,780 light-years away from Earth and has an apparent diameter of 98 light-years. Estimated to be around 10,000 years old, its red color comes from light emitted by energized hydrogen atoms, while the blue and green color is the result of energized oxygen atoms.
According to Tom: The Garlic Nebula (Abell 85), supernova remnant in Cassiopeia. 98 light-years in diameter, and about 9,780 light-years from Earth. This was 30 hours over six nights at the Okie-Tex Star Party 2024. The Stellarvue SVX130T on a Losmandy G-11, with a ZWO ASI2600MM-Pro camera and Baader filters. Nebula captured in HOORGB — Ha and O-III, 12 hours each, with natural RGB stars, 2 hours each color channel.
Other Designations: Garlic Nebula, Medulla Nebula, LBN 576, A 39, ACO 13, Holmberg 15A, CTB 1.
