Tony Hallas captured this remarkable image of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000) in Cygnus with his SVX180T. This emission nebula gets its name from having a shape resemblant to North America. It lies about 1,800 light-years away from Earth and spans roughly 90 light-years north to south. The dark band of interstellar dust (L935) is transparent to radio waves and infrared radiation, revealing this nebula's central regions and highly luminous stars that are not visible to an ordinary telescope.
